Audio Storytelling is Immersive Storytelling

‍Immersive storytelling can be more than a room with some special effects or a VR game that puts you in the shoes of a character. When Dell Cybersecurity approached us for making an immersive experience to engage customers, their heads went straight to a VR simulator or an AR experience, something really…BIG. 

Taking into consideration the timing and budget, we thought to go in a different direction, something simpler yet immersive. Our heads went to something that could keep potential customers engaged. That’s when the spark hit. A narrative podcast about cyber crime, The Cybersecurity Tapes.

With the rise in true crime podcasts like Serial, Dr. Death, and My Favorite Murder, we thought the time was right for a cyber crime one. Cybersecurity is ultimately less gorey than most podcasts but still engaging and exciting. Immersive.

Finding the Right Story

A podcast with great actors and production is nothing without a compelling story. Cybersecurity might not be what first comes to mind as being “compelling” or nuanced. But there are gems like the story we made for Dell about hackers breaking into a ?_______? , through a smart bulb in a street lamp that was outside the office of the ______ that was also hooked to their wifi with many other twists and turns along the way.

To keep the audience engaged and coming back, we added a fictional character with a plot that runs alongside the other stories. Keeping the tension from one episode to the next. This all helps to dramatize what might seem uneventful.

We Make More Audio Stories than Podcasts

We’re not all podcasts, we produce other types of audio narratives. Our Space-Time Adventure Tours are audio and augmented reality tours that use a narrative thread and lighthearted comedy to weave through historical moments along the route keeping tour-goers engaged and delighted.

Immersed in sound

Audio technology has been around for ages. We are way past the point of wax cylinders and player pianos. Hi-fi sound has evolved into Spatial Audio that can replicate such audio details like distant footsteps, unique sounds or rainfall. Spatial audio creates an immersive 360-degree sound experience, making it feel like sounds are coming from all around you. It is being integrated into headphones, like Apple's AirPod Pros, to enhance the listening experience.
